5k May Challenge 2022

Take on the 5K May 2022 Challenge Take on the 5K challenge during May 2022 to support Burning Nights CRPS Support Will you take on the 5k May challenge during National Walking Month? Challenge yourself to a 5K walk, roll or run at any time throughout the month of May. Ask your family, friends or colleagues to sponsor your walking challenge and raise much needed donations for us. Remember that you don't have to complete the 5km all at once, why not spread it over the month and you can chart your success to share them on your fundraising page? The counselling service has genuinely changed my life for the better. For the first time since being diagnosed with CRPS I felt truly listened to and understood. I would recommend it to anyone. The amount of counselling is amazing. My counsellor has set me up for life with the skills and understanding she taught me. I can't verbalise how much good the service has done for me.AD, CRPS Patient Why Take Part? When the coronavirus pandemic took hold, Burning Nights CRPS Support saw a 38% increase in calls and emails from CRPS patients thinking about taking their own lives. With a major mental health crisis in the CRPS community now on our hands, we launched a counselling service to give patients a chance to work through their problems with a professional. We’re providing up to 20 hours of counselling or therapy free of charge to patients and their families, many of whom struggle to make ends meet because chronic pain means they cannot work. But therapy comes at a hefty cost to us and demand is far outstripping our current ability to provide and pay for this crucial service.  Our other services such as our befriending service has also been very well received and has been of important value to many CRPS patients and their families. We provide 12 weekly phone calls or Zoom chats of up to 40 minutes each from one of our trained volunteer Befrienders who all live with CRPS themselves. Our charity's Founder and Chair, Victoria Abbott-Fleming said: “The pandemic hit Burning Nights CRPS Support badly just as it has for other small charities. As a small national charity, every pound and penny raised is crucial. Two of our support services for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome patients and their families - the counselling service and befriending service both need funding. During the Pandemic the charity had an increase of 38% of suicide related calls and emails, and an increase of 156% on requests for our support services. If you can roll, swim, dance, skate, run or walk a total of 5K during May, you will be helping to support vulnerable people struggling at a low point in their life.” How To Take Part You can take part on your own or as a group, set up a Just Giving page in aid of Burning Nights CRPS Support, start your fundraising and get yourself ready for taking on a total of 5km during the month of May. You can walk, roll, run, skate, cycle or even swim a total of 5km between the 1-31 May 2022. You need to be able to chart your success either in a activity watch or through an app lilke Strava. If you use Strava you can also link it to your Just Giving fundraising page and share your success with your supporters! Learn how to link your Strava account to your Just Giving page here. We can also send you one of our orange fundraising t-shirts and blank event posters to help you raise awareness of CRPS and also of your fundraising event.
