Burning Nights CRPS Support is delighted to announce that we are one of the 500 winners in specialist insurer Ecclesiastical’s Movement for Good awards, which is giving £1million to charities this summer. We would like to say a huge thank you to those of you, our supporters and the public who made the nominations from you.
Members of the public were invited to nominate causes close to their hearts, with 500 gifts of £1,000 available for donation. Over 13,000 charities were nominated by more than 210,000 members of the public.
The £1,000 donation will be going directly to support people of all ages who are affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) as well as their loved ones and carers.
We are looking to spend the donation on providing 4 CRPS patients or family members with 10 hours of life saving counselling for each of them. Since the coronavirus pandemic took hold, Burning Nights CRPS Support has seen a 38% increase in calls and emails from CRPS sufferers thinking about taking their own lives.
Victoria Abbott-Fleming, the charity’s Founder & Chair said: “Firstly thank you so much to all of you who nominated Burning Nights CRPS Support, without your support we wouldn’t have been considered for one of the awards. I am thrilled that we have been chosen to receive one of the £1,000 awards, and it is with sincere thanks to all of you who supported our nomination. I have seen the charity grow and develop since I started it in 2014, over 7 years ago. We have helped thousands of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome patients and their families and we will continue on doing so. CRPS is a difficult condition to live with and it doesn’t just affect those with the condition, it has just as much effect on all those around them. But we’re here to be there for patients and families, to support them and be a listening ear when it’s needed.”

Following a recent survey, the charity found that 71% of patients felt that their mental health had worsened since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic. With a major mental health crisis in the CRPS community now on our hands, we launched a counselling service to give CRPS patients and their families a chance to work through their problems with a professional. We’re currently providing the sessions free of charge to patients, many of whom struggle to make ends meet because chronic pain means they cannot work.
