This study is a part of a Master’s Project at University College London under the guidance of Dr. Louise Kedroff. We have received approval from the university’s ethics committee (University College London Life and Medical Sciences Research Ethics Committee Project ID: 3227). The study aims to explore the reasons why people with persistent pain conditions attend A&E seeking treatment for a flare of their persistent pain, their experiences in A&E and recommendations for service improvement. Data will be collected through one online interview lasting 30 to 45 minutes.

The inclusion criteria are:

  • i) Participants are over 18 years of age
  • ii) They have attended A&E in the UK to seek treatment for an episode of a flare up of persistent pain (non-cancer related) in the last 5 years
  • iii) They have been living with persistent pain for more than 3 months
  • iv) They can communicate in English and are able to provide written and verbal consent.

Data will be saved on a password protected encrypted cloud account which will only be accessed by the researchers (Eshita Shah, Dr. Louise Kedroff, Ethel Carboni Jardim), and all data will be anonymised (all identifiable details will be deleted), hence protecting the identity of participants.

If you are interested in participating or want more information, kindly email the researcher: Eshita Shah (sejkesh@ucl.ac.uk)
