This study aims to explore how people with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) perceive the representation of CRPS in the media and whether these representations reflect their lived experiences of the condition. You will first be asked to read the information sheet and provide your informed consent. You will then be asked to complete some basic demographic questions, such as your age, gender, and nationality, as well as questions about your experience of CRPS, including whether you have been diagnosed with CRPS and how long you have had the condition. You will then be asked a series of open-ended questions about your experiences and perceptions of how CRPS is represented in the media. You are encouraged to provide as much detail as you feel comfortable sharing. The study should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You do not have to answer any questions that you do not wish to answer, and you can withdraw from the study in accordance with the procedures outlined in the information sheet. Please note, the survey is for research purposes only, and not intended as any therapeutic or diagnostic process. This study has received full ethical approval from the University of Chester School of Society Ethics Committee.
The primary target sample for this study are individuals with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
To participate, you must be aged between 18 and 60 years, be English-speaking, and have a diagnosis of CRPS or currently be undergoing the diagnostic process. You will also be asked whether you have any other medical conditions. This information will be used to provide a description of the sample and to provide appropriate context when interpreting responses.
If you are currently experiencing a high level of psychological distress, you may wish to consider whether taking part is appropriate for you, due to the potentially sensitive nature of reflecting on your experiences of CRPS. You are free to provide as much detail as you feel comfortable sharing. Your participation is voluntary, and you can choose to not answer any questions that you do not wish to discuss. You ca also withdraw from the study at any time before submitting your responses.
