Volunteering – Support Us

Volunteering with Burning Nights CRPS Support can be a rewarding experience for you as well as showing your support for us. Supporting the work that Burning Nights CRPS Support does by volunteering your time and skills can be beneficial to everyone.

Digital Communication Volunteers

We want to welcome two (2) Digital Communication Volunteers into our volunteering team to help us with the growth of our online presence. This role will be a valuable part of our team, helping us to share crucial information and events to our supporters, as well as communicating what support we can give to people affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

The Role

Website

  • Add content to the main information pages 
  • Upload and maintain events such as fundraisers, conferences, support groups etc 
  • To produce content for the website, including re-writing and enhancing existing content, and producing original pieces as required. For example, growing our fundraising and impact of our services content 
  • Create printable one page information sheets for various sections of our new website
  • Developing and editing case studies with contributors where needed
  • Managing the circulation of information and reaching new audiences
  • Planning and contributing to a monthly blog for our website
  • Help create quarterly printed & email newsletters for members & supporters

Email Marketing

  • To contribute to our email newsletters (Mailchimp) for our supporters, including our regular newsletter and specific campaign communications
  • To create automated email series for donors (regular & one off) and fundraisers
  • Help keep the Mailchimp lists up to date by updating and archiving bounce backs.

Experience and skills 

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience of working with members of the public, consumers, customers or donors 
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email
  • Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of producing digital content, including for website and email
  • Able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices
  •  Able to keep people’s personal data safe
  • Knowledge of and passion for communications and all things ‘digital’ 
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a varied tasks
  • Ability to work flexibly & collaboratively on your own or as part of a small remote team 
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Ability to meet deadlines 

Desirable

  • Experience of analysing and using data to inform strategy and decision making 
  • Knowledge of MailChimp 
  • Knowledge of HTML 
  • Experience of the charity sector 
  • Knowledge and understanding of chronic pain 
  • Good research skills and able to motivate and support contributions from others
  • Enjoy writing and happy to follow our brand guidelines and tone of voice
  • Willing to develop skills and experience
  • Willing to learn bespoke IT systems
  • Able to promote our work publicly
  • Keen to communicate our core messages

Time Commitment: minimum 3-4 hours per week, 6 months commitment to the charity

Counsellors

We’re looking for qualified counsellors for our newly created CRPS counselling service, who are registered with one of the recognised organisations such as the BACP. We will consider counsellors who may not currently be registered or registered as a student with the understanding you must be registered before the start of the role.

Social Media – All Channels

Do you have the skills to help us with our social media? We’re looking for volunteers to help with the different social media channels we are on

The Role

  • Managing our social media accounts
  • Creating new posts to be posted
  • Creating content that is interesting engaging
  • Replying to comments on posts
  • Replying to private messages

Desirable Skills:

  • An enthusiasm for Burning Nights CRPS Support’s work and helping others get involved
  • Ability to volunteer within the Burning Nights CRPS Support’s guidelines & values
  • Ability to be part of a team

  • Good creativity skills

Time Commitment: minimum 2 hours per week, ideally 2-4 hours per week

Live Chat Volunteer

Could you help as a volunteer and communicate with people in need of information and support via online message? 

About The Role

  • Two to four hours per week volunteering remotely at any time during our online live chat hours
  • No obligatory or fixed commitment
  • You don’t need to have worked in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) before, all you need is a secure internet connection and somewhere private to work
  • Informing and signposting people about CRPS, health issues and other relevant services
  • Offering support to attend one of our support groups or other activity for the first time
  • Offering general support to people who need it
  • Promoting our publications or services
  • Signposting people to up to date information about services
  • Referring any in-depth support needs to our Support Helpline or another team member

  • Ability to adopt an objective view rather than a personal one
  • Able to keep people’s personal information private and safe
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email

Support Volunteer

Our Support (Email) Volunteers use their listening and interpersonal skills to offer support for people affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

About The Role

  • Informing and signposting people about CRPS, health issues and other relevant services
  • Offering support to attend one of our support groups or other activity for the first time
  • Offering general support to people who need it
  • Promoting our publications or services
  • Signposting people to up to date information about services
  • Referring any in-depth support needs to our Support Helpline or Online Live Chat

Befriender

Do you want to be a friend to other CRPS patients, family members or caregivers? We’re looking for volunteer befrienders who will be able to call or Zoom chat or telephone other CRPS patients, family members or caregivers once a week for 40 minutes?

About The Role

  • Having a 40 minute friendly chat once a week to another CRPS patient
  • Informing and signposting people about CRPS, health issues and other relevant services
  • Offer a listening ear
  • Referring any in-depth support needs to our Support Helpline, CRPS Counselling or Online Live Chat
  • Update and complete necessary records

Are you multi-lingual or have advanced level language skills other than English? Join our team to help us translate our literature in other languages including:

  • Arabic
  • Farsi

  • Hindi
  • Kurdish
  • Mandarin
  • Polish
  • Punjabi
  • Spanish
  • Urdu

About The Role

We are looking for multilingual volunteers or volunteers who can speak another language fluently other than their native language, who will be able to:

  • Translate our printed literature in various languages
  • Assist with translating social media images and/or snippets
  • Translation in our online support groups – both written and oral
